Skoda Roomster Skoda Roomster There’s a second addition to Skoda’s new Scout family - the stylish Roomster Scout. The robust compact MPV shares the chunky body protection and increased ride height of its larger Octavia sibling, but retains the Roomster range’s standard two-wheel drive system. The Scout is distinguishable from other models in the range thanks to some unique styling cues and increased exterior dimensions. It’s 14mm longer, 11mm wider and 43mm taller than standard Roomsters, affording the new model a more imposing air. Standard specification levels are impressive. Compared to the existing Roomster 2 model the Scout also boasts styled body mouldings, 16” alloy wheels, special ‘Scout’ upholstery, roof rails, branded floor mats, fog-lights, sunset glass, TPM (tyre pressure monitor), ESP, a leather three-spoke steering wheel and gearknob and aluminium designed pedals. Orders for the Roomster Scout are being taken now with the first deliveries expected in June. Elsewhere in the Roomster range buyers can also now find a new entry-level 1.2 12V 70bhp engine. Available from the end of February, cars featuring the frugal yet feisty powerplant will cost from ?9,920 - a price that compares favourably to similarly powerful rivals. The 1.2 12V 70bhp Roomster is likely to appeal to town drivers looking for a spacious, nippy and economical machine. Top speed is reached at 98mph, the sprint to 62mph is taken care of in 15.9 seconds and over 51mpg is achievable on the combined cycle. A CO2 figure of 159g/km will also appeal when car tax payment time comes around. Standard equipment includes: a CD player, side airbags, curtain airbags, tinted glass, a rear armrest and front electric windows. Skoda Superb Skoda Superb Skoda is updating the Superb for the 2007 model year. Built at the Skoda assembly plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic, the Superb offers exceptional interior space and generous trim levels that continue to include equipment normally found in luxury-class cars. The most striking change to the exterior design is a new radiator grille, updated to give it a new, more 3-dimensional design in line with the new face of Skoda. Turn indicators have been integrated into the wing mirrors and the front indicators have been combined with the headlamps. Similar to those of the new Skoda Roomster and the Octavia, the tail lights are C-shaped, giving the Superb rear view a distinct character. In addition, customers can choose from four new colours: Cappuccino Beige, Olive Green, Anthracite Grey and, from November 2006, Satin Grey. The 2007 Superb has changes to the interior, including a new dashboard configuration on all trim levels. The instruments clusters are backlit with very gentle white light. The existing equipment level portfolio - Classic, Comfort and Elegance - will continue without modification and has been extended with the Laurin & Klement, a new top-of-the-range model. Named after the company’s founders, the Superb L&K includes 17” alloy wheels, dual exhaust and special badging. The vehicle's interior includes leather seats, wood trim and sleek metal-finished frames on ventilation outlets and door handles. Pricing of this model is yet to be confirmed. The Skoda Superb continues to be available with three petrol and three diesel engines, with performance levels ranging from the 115 bhp 2.0 litre to the 2.8 V6 with 193 bhp in the petrol engines and from 105 bhp in the 1.9 TDI to 160 bhp in the 2.5 V6 TDI in the turbo diesel engines. Skoda Octavia Skoda Octavia It started out as ‘practical and exciting’ but more recently, SkodaAuto has added frugal to the list of adjectives. It must be the Octavia vRS - a car that lives up to its TV tagline. The new Octavia vRS was launched with a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine and was said to be Skoda’s most powerful production car. This 200bhp, turbo-charged, direct-injection unit was, and still is, capable of a 0-62mph sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 149mph in hatch form. The estate version takes a little longer (7.5 seconds) for the sprint and the top speed is reduced to 147mph. It proved popular and was awarded the ‘Best Hot Hatch’ title in the What Car? Awards 2006. Very good, but what if Skoda could make the car more fuel efficient without compromising too much of the performance? Well, the obvious answer is the Volkswagen Group’s acclaimed TDI PD, diesel unit. Clearly, this was a popular decision as the TDI version accounts for 34.5% of total Octavia vRS sales. So, now we have the 170bhp, 2.0 TDI PD vRS Octavia with a top speed of 140mph and a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds. The fact that this car can be called a ‘hot hatch’ is an illustration of how much diesel engines have improved. Again the estate vRS is a tad slower in the sprint by 0.01 of a second (8.6 seconds) and the top speed is reduced by 1mph to 139mph, which is neither here nor there. Inherently cleaner and greener than the petrol counterparts, the diesel unit is also fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter that helps to reduce the amount of nasties coming out of the twin exhaust pipes and the CO2 emissions are measured at 157g/km for both the hatch and estate versions.
